Design
One of the most intriguing parts of the Pixel 6 series is its look. The two phones have a two-tone design with a black camera hump that spans the entire backside. This bump separates the two colours on the back of the phone. To distinguish the two phones, use the space above the camera strap. The Pixel 6 Pro is a phone with a space above the camera bar. Over the years, Google has opted for a safe design for Pixels, but we’re delighted that with the Pixel 6 series, the firm decided to go with something more modern and striking.
The ordinary Pixel 6 is made of matte aluminium, whereas the Pixel 6 Pro is light polished stainless steel. Both phones have squared-off corners and an industrial style. The steel frame is flanked on both sides by glass. Both phones use Gorilla Glass Victus on display. However, only the Pro has the same Victus glass on the back. The back of the Pixel 6 is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.
The front of both phones is similar to that of almost all Android phones. To keep bezels to a minimum, both phones include a centred hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. When it comes to bezels, the Pixel 6 features somewhat thicker bezels around the screen. On the Pixel 6, the borders are also flat. Google chose a curved display on the Pixel 6 Pro that blends into the frame on the sides, resulting in lower bezels. Instead of the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner seen on the Pixel 5, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro include in-display fingerprint scanners.
Overall, the Pixel 6 series’ strong and distinct appearance will undoubtedly set it apart from other Android phones on the market. It’s good to see Google leading from the front, especially with many smartphone manufacturers playing it safe with their designs.
Display
The Google Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch flat display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Because this is an OLED display, the colour reproduction and viewing angles will be excellent. On the Pixel 5, a hole-punch cutout was located in the upper right corner of the show, but on the Pixel 6, it has been relocated to the middle. The display specifications are standard and comparable to those seen on other phones in this price range. Other manufacturers in this price range include a 120Hz refresh rate, so we’re disappointed that Google limited it to 90Hz on the non-Pro variant. The phone’s bezels are slightly thicker when viewed from the front, giving it a slight antiquated appearance.
On the other side, the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.67-inch QHD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED screen. Because the display is an LTPO panel, the screen refresh rate can range from 10Hz to 120Hz, depending on what you’re doing on it. This is one of the best smartphone display panels available, and it’s identical to the one seen on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Because it’s a curved panel, there aren’t many bezels on the sides. The phone is relatively huge due to the wide display, but consumers who watch a lot of material on their phones may welcome the extra space. On the Pixel 5, the resolution has been increased to QHD+ from FHD+, giving you an actual flagship experience.
Storage, RAM, and SoC
The adoption of Google’s proprietary Tensor SoC is one of the most significant innovations in the Pixel 6 series this year. Several times during the launch presentation, Google stated that smartphone chipsets were not capable of handling Google’s advanced AI and machine learning algorithms. This is why, with the Pixel 6 series, they decided to create their chip. With Tensor, Google can execute many Machine Learning algorithms on-device without sacrificing device speed.
The Tensor chip in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro has the following core configuration:
- 2x ARM Cortex-X1 processors running at 2.8GHz
- 2x ARM Cortex-A76 processors running at 2.25GHz
- 4x ARM Cortex-A55 processors running at 1.80GHz

Google claims Tensor is 80 percent quicker than the Snapdragon 765 5G chipset used in the Pixel 5. The built-in Mali G78-MP20 GPU has 20 cores and is 370 percent faster than the graphics on the Pixel 5. While we’ll have to wait and see how the technology performs in the real world, Google appears to be on the right track. Given how Apple optimizes the software to work on its hardware, we’ve seen the benefits of having a native chip on the iPhone. With the Pixel 6 series, we’re hoping for a similar level of optimization. The Tensor chip, of course, also includes 5G capabilities.
All storage models of the Pixel 6 have 8GB of RAM, while the Pixel 6 Pro has 12GB of RAM. The Pixel 6 comes with 128GB or 256GB of storage, while the Pixel 6 Pro comes with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB. UFS 3.1 storage is used on all models.
Cameras and their Functions
The Pixel range has long been known for its cameras. A lot of people buy Pixel phones because of their camera capabilities. With the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, that aspect has just gotten stronger. Until now, Google’s excellent outcomes were primarily dependent on its software and computational photography methods. Since the first-generation Pixel, all phones in the series have used a 12MP sensor, which lagged behind all the large sensors with significant numbers that other manufacturers had been employing for a time.
Thankfully, with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, that has changed. The Pixel 6 has a dual-camera arrangement on the back, with a 50MP Samsung GN1 primary camera and a 12MP Sony IMX 386 ultra-wide lens. The Pixel 6 Pro, on the other hand, sports a triple rear camera arrangement that includes a 48MP Sony IMX 586 telephoto lens in addition to the Pixel 6’s two cameras. The new camera hardware should create some amazing quality shots combined with Google’s software magic, but we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the phones to comment on that. The Pixel 6 includes an 8MP selfie camera, while the Pixel 6 Pro has an 11.1MP sensor.
Apart from the usual camera upgrades, Google said that the Tensor chip had contributed additional software functions to the Pixel 6. These tools assist you in taking better photos and improving the overall image quality of your phone. Here are some of the new camera features coming to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, as announced by Google.
Natural Tone is a skin tone depiction that is as natural as possible.
To get better action shots, use Motion Mode.
To avoid blurry images, use Face Unblur.
To erase undesired components from photographs, use the Magic Eraser.
Snapchat can be launched immediately from the lock screen with a quick tap.
Battery and Charging
The regular Pixel 6 comes with a 4,600mAh battery, which is relatively enormous considering the phone’s size. Also, because Google utilises its silicon, the battery optimization should be better than if it were using a different company’s SoC. The Pixel 6 is likely to offer excellent battery life thanks to the software enhancements.
Software
Both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro come with Android 12 out of the box on the software front. The Material You design language and wallpaper-based UX theming are included in the new Android version. It also has a privacy dashboard that displays which apps use your phone’s camera, microphone, or location. You also get a slew of new, redesigned widgets and a variety of other handy features that interact with the new Tensor chip.
