Sony Mobile and new Xperia phones haven’t come out yet this year. We’ve already seen phones from Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, and even Apple, but we still haven’t seen Sony’s new phones.
With a new Sony Xperia 1 III on the way, here is everything we know so far. Reports say that Sony might change its name again and call it the Xperia 1 IV. We are calling it the Xperia 1 IV in this feature, but it might be called something else when it comes out.
Even though we don’t know everything about Sony’s next Xperia phone yet, this is what we know so far.

Sony Xperia 1 IV Release Date
- May 2022?
In May 2022, it’s said that the Sony Xperia 1 IV will be released. That’s a little later than when its predecessor came out in January.
April 2021 was the first time the Sony Xperia 1 III was shown off. It wasn’t available to buy until July 2021, and it didn’t arrive until August 2021. The Xperia 1 II, on the other hand, was announced in February 2020, so there isn’t really a set a date for the top Xperia phones anymore.
It has been said that the price of the Xperia 1 IV will be between $1400 and $1600.
Sony Xperia 1 IV Design
- Tall and slim
- Flat edges
- IP68
- Black, Matte Green
Sony hasn’t made too many changes to the design of its top-of-the-line Xperia phones in the last few years. Since the shift in the 21:9 aspect ratio, we’ve seen long, thin, and narrow phones and other devices across the whole range of sizes and shapes.
Leaked images of the Xperia 1 IV show flat edges, bezels at the top and bottom of the screen, and a small, pill-shaped vertical camera housing on the back. This is far less noticeable than its competitors.
The fingerprint sensor built into the power button on the Xperia 1 IV appears to be back. There is also a dedicated camera button on the phone. The 3.5mm headphone jack, which is often left out, also looks to be there. It seems like the Google Assistant button won’t be.
In the past, Sony had made phones that could be submerged in water and dust for a long time before anyone else did. We’d expect this for the Xperia 1 IV, as well.
You can choose between black and matte green as your colour; it’s been said.
Sony Xperia 1 IV Display
- 6.5-inches, LTPO?
- 21:9 aspect ratio
- 4K, 120Hz, HDR
As far as we know, the Sony Xperia 1 IV will be the same size as the 1 III. It will have 6.5 inches of screen space. Many people say that it will have an LTPO screen, and it’s expected to have a 21:9 aspect ratio like the Xperia 1. Read more;
We don’t know how big the screen is, but Sony didn’t follow the Quad HD+ trend and went straight to 4K on its top phones, so we’d expect the same from the Xperia 1 IV.
Expect a 120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR as well, as well

Hardware and Specs
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
- 12GB/16GB RAM
- 5000mAh battery
- 30W or 45W charging
It’s been said that the Sony Xperia 1 IV will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which makes sense because it has a lot of power. Sony has always used Qualcomm chips in its devices, and the SD 8 Gen 1 in the Xperia 1 IV makes sense because Sony has always used Qualcomm chips.
There are said to be 12GB and 16GB of RAM options, 256GB and 512GB of storage, with microSD cards likely being used as well. The Xperia 1 IV is also said to have a 5000mAh battery, but there are conflicting reports about how fast it can charge.
Many rumors say that the Xperia 1 IV will be able to charge quickly at 30W, like the Xperia 1 III. Other words say that the new flagship will be able to charge soon at 45W. Read also; The Sony Xperia Pro-I is primarily a camera
Sony Xperia 1 IV Camera
- Triple rear camera
If you buy the Xperia 1 IV, you won’t hear many stories about its cameras right now. It has been said that the phone will have a telephoto lens.
The Xperia 1 III has three 12-megapixel cameras, so the Xperia 1 IV may have the same thing. At the moment, we don’t know for sure. Read also;
