After the Galaxy Z Flip 3 came out last summer, it will be hard for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 to live up to its reputation. With that model, Samsung improved its foldable phone with a clamshell design by making changes all over and lowering the price to $999, which is much more reasonable.
But there is always room to grow, especially in the category of foldable phones, which is still new. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 isn’t perfect, so when a new version comes out later this year, Samsung will have many ways to improve it. The Flip 4 could be a game-changer in the same way that its predecessor was.

We’re learning more about the next cheap foldable Galaxy Z, but there are still some questions about what Samsung might release in about a month. We’ve put together what we’ve heard about the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and what we’d like to see from it to make it one of the best foldable phones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Release Date and Prices
We don’t have to guess about release dates for much longer. On August 10, at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT, Samsung will hold an event called Galaxy Unpacked. We think the Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be introduced there, especially since a foldable device is featured prominently on the event invitation.
For what it’s worth, Samsung has said that the August event will be all about foldable phones. In a blog post promoting the event, TM Roh, the president and head of mobile at Samsung, said, “I can’t wait to show you how our new Samsung Galaxy foldables can be the best tool for both work and play.”
Leaker Jon Prosser said the Z Flip 4 would come out on that date. Also, Prosser thinks the full retail release will happen on August 26.
Foldables are likely to be a part of the event on August 10. Here’s what you can expect from the Samsung Unpacked Event in August 2022, including all the new products Samsung might announce.

We don’t think Samsung will change the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from what it costs now. After all, one of the best things about the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was that it started at just $999.
But Sudhanshu Ambhore, who has a good reputation for leaking accurate information, has posted prices for Samsung’s next Flip that show the foldable phone price is going up, not down.
The prices are in Euros, and the 128GB version of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to start at €1080, the 256GB model at €1160, and the 512GB flip phone at €1280. The starting price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 was €1,049. Remember that converting these exact conversions to dollars with European taxes won’t give accurate prices, but it would show that the best Flip 4 could cost $1,097 instead of $999.
Another price leak from a European store shows that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 might go up in price by a small amount. Like Sudhanshu Ambhore’s guess, this leak says the Flip 4 could start at €1,080, which is about $31.50 more than Ambhore’s guess.
You can already sign up at Samsung.com to pre-order whatever Samsung announces on August 10. If you buy a phone, a watch, and earbuds simultaneously, you can get up to $200 back. If you buy the phone, Samsung will give you a $100 credit to use in its online store.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Design
Samsung skipped the second generation of the Galaxy Z Flip to be in line with the Galaxy Z Fold line. The Z Flip 3 was a slight update to the original Galaxy Z Flip, and from what we’ve seen and heard, the Z Flip 4 could be another small change to the current model’s design.
Several renders do a good job of showing this. The Z Flip 4 will probably be the same size and shape as the Z Flip 3, but the outer display will be bigger. Ice Universe, a leaker, says that the fold in the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s screen will be less noticeable on the inside. This would solve one of the biggest problems people have with foldable phones.
TechTalkTV has posted what it says are leaked pictures of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which add to the evidence that this is true. At least in this shot, the crease is hard to see.

The Z Flip 4 could get a new hinge like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, making the phone thinner. We think this is more important for the bigger Fold because it will make Samsung’s foldable easier to carry, but a simpler design is always good. Read More; Samsung Galaxy S22+ Review: Flagship Sweet Spot
Images of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 that Evan Blass got from a leak show that the hinge is thinner. These rumored images, which were shared on 91mobiles, show a phone with a bigger camera bump and a less tapered shape. This could mean that Samsung is improving the camera on this phone.
The only rumor we have about color options is that there will be four to choose from. It looks like they’ll be gold, silver, light blue, and light violet.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Specs
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 appears to be pretty similar to the current model based on the early leaks around it. According to a report, Samsung may retain the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s 6.7-inch internal and 1.9-inch exterior displays. That would make sense given how well designed the Flip 3 is and how helpful the external display is.
However, according to Ross Young and Yogesh Brar, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will likely have a larger cover display, possibly measuring at least two inches.
Additionally, there are claims that Samsung has tested a Galaxy Z Flip 4 model with an under-display camera. We sincerely hope that is not the case, given the subpar one on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. According to the source of this rumor, Samsung intends to lighten the Galaxy Z Flip 3 by changing the hinge configuration. Simply put, we want to see a gapless design like the Oppo Find N’s.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 may use the same 3,300 mAh battery as the Flip 3, according to certain speculations. But according to two reports, Samsung intends to boost the overall capacity by 400 mAh. That’s a respectable improvement, but given the poor battery life of the existing Z Flip, Samsung must do more to raise the phone’s productivity.
Instead of using the existing standard 8 Gen 1 CPU present in devices like the Galaxy S22 series to power the phone, Samsung might use the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. These leaked benchmarks appear to show that would offer it a substantial performance increase compared to many phones launched this year and last year’s model.

The first smartphone running Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 that we had the opportunity to evaluate was the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro. If the ROG Phone 6 Pro benchmarks are any indicator, Samsung switching to Qualcomm’s newest silicon could give the Galaxy Z Flip 4 a substantial performance increase over its predecessor.
A fingerprint sensor that is positioned on the power button might be another similarity to the earlier model. The Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 are better off without an under-display fingerprint sensor for the time being, despite Samsung’s efforts to develop one for its foldable. Later this year, the phone might make its debut under a different moniker. In response to Russian officials using the letter Z to support the invasion of Ukraine, certain European nations are now marketing the current model as the Galaxy Flip 3. Probably, Samsung will completely omit the Z from the upcoming phone and switch to naming it the Galaxy Flip 4.
What We’d Like to See
A significant upgrade over the original Galaxy Z Flip was the Galaxy Z Flip 3. But it was far from flawless. When Samsung introduces the Galaxy Z Flip 4, we believe it would benefit from addressing some of those obvious problems.
