Phones are getting a boost in speed. The Snapdragon 888 Plus, Qualcomm’s newest and highest-end smartphone processor, was revealed on Monday.

The technology boosts the Snapdragon 888, which debuted in premium phones like the Samsung Galaxy S21 earlier this year.

Snapdragon 888 Plus from Qualcomm will boost gaming performance.

The Snapdragon 888 Plus’s CPU (the brains of the chipset) has been clocked at 3GHz, up from 2.84GHz in the Snapdragon 888. Users will be able to do more intense tasks, such as streaming video and playing games, thanks to the enhancement. Qualcomm has increased artificial intelligence capabilities by over 20%, allowing for more immersive video chats and entertainment.

Qualcomm claims that device makers are working on more than 130 devices based on the Snapdragon 888 and 888 Plus processors. Starting in the third quarter, the 888 Plus will be available in devices.

During a virtual presentation at Mobile World Congress 2021, Qualcomm’s incoming CEO, Cristiano Amon, said, “It enables fundamentally intelligent entertainment experiences with AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography, and more.” “It’s all aimed to give flagship Android smartphones around the world the most premium mobile experiences.”

While the MWC is taking place in person this week in Barcelona, most large corporations have chosen to participate electronically rather than sending personnel to the Spanish capital. Qualcomm, as well as Samsung, Google, and Ericsson, are among the companies involved. The conference, which attracts executives from handset manufacturers, chipmakers, networking providers, app and software developers, and other mobile-focused organizations, is anticipated to focus on 5G.

Now that the coronavirus has profoundly impacted our environment, the continuous advancement of 5G is more important than ever. Everything from simple video conferencing to telemedicine and advanced augmented and virtual reality might benefit from the next-generation cellular network, which claims anywhere from 10 to 100 times the speed of 4G and rapid-fire reaction. Few phones have hit the market in the United States this year without 5G, and models like Apple’s iPhone 12 range include the ultra-fast millimeter-wave version as standard. While many people now have 5G phones, there isn’t currently a “killer app” that demonstrates the capabilities of the technology.

Amon spent a lot of his MWC speech, which Qualcomm previewed for reporters ahead of time, talking about Qualcomm’s attempts to expand 5G beyond the phone. Cellular technology from the business is now found in PCs, vehicles, smart internet of things devices, fixed wireless goods, and infrastructure for 5G networks.

During a press conference ahead of MWC, Amon remarked, “Qualcomm is really… capitalizing on the potential that we have now for our technology to move beyond mobile.”

Qualcomm also revealed its second-generation 5G RAN technology for small cells alongside the Snapdragon 888 Plus. The technology will allow mmWave to be used in more places, both indoors and out, as well as in new places around the world. It will also bring additional lower band 5G capabilities in public and private networks, as well as small cell densification. Qualcomm’s new 5G DU X100 Accelerator Card will enable operators and infrastructure providers to benefit from 5G’s high performance, low latency, and low power consumption.

More than 35 carriers and device vendors from around the world have committed to supporting mmWave, according to Qualcomm. Although the technology offers super-fast speeds, it is less stable than 5G’s mid- and low-band versions. It can only move a small distance because to obstructions such as trees, windows, and other objects.

While practically all other operators around the world have selected slower but more dependable forms of 5G, Verizon has been the most vocal proponent of mmWave. Even in the United States, mmWave is only used in densely populated areas or in venues such as sports arenas. However, Qualcomm claims that mmWave’s coverage will expand.

During a meeting with reporters ahead of MWC, Qualcomm senior director of product marketing Ignacio Contreras remarked, “5G mmWave is often seen as a technology that is highly US centric.” “However, if you look at the makeup of these corporations that are explicitly announcing their support… this is far from a US-centric picture.”

Qualcomm stated that connection will be available in China, Europe, Japan, Korea, North America, and Southeast Asia. Oppo said it plans to launch 5G mmWave devices “in the near future,” possibly as soon as next year, according to Contreras. China Unicom plans to roll out mmWave for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, while China Unicom said it plans to roll out mmWave for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
