The Moto G62 by Motorola is a cheap 5G phone with a decently sized display and dual speakers. These three features set it apart as something designed for fun, rather than merely functional.
In many countries, including the United States, 5G mobile internet speeds are already included in regular phone contracts, and this phone is an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade. The Moto G62 shares some of the qualities that have made other phones in the Moto G series so popular.
As a whole, the software is refined and uncluttered, the pricing is reasonable, and the battery life is satisfactory.
However, when working with a small amount of money, compromises are unavoidable. The Moto G62’s camera setup is mediocre at best. The quality of both still shots and video is severely lacking, especially at night.
The Moto G62 is just as underwhelming as a gaming device thanks to the Snapdragon 480 Plus underneath, which struggles with games like Fortnite that rely heavily on graphics.
Camera quality and high-end gaming are two areas where an extra monetary investment will provide noticeable benefits. On the other hand, if you’re looking into the Moto G62, you probably don’t want to spend too much money. If so, it’s one of the best smartphones available today.

Design and Display
Regarding design, the Moto G62 doesn’t provide any surprises or shocks; it’s very ordinary for a budget phone. Along with a USB-C port, a speaker, and a 3.5mm headphone socket, Motorola has managed to cram two speakers and a second USB-C port onto this phone. The power button also functions as a fingerprint sensor. The volume and power buttons are located on the right side of the device.
For the Moto G62, Frosted Blue and Midnight Grey are the available colors. The latter was what we used for our review unit, and I believe it to be the more captivating of the two. The plastic back’s light blue color has a great sheen to it, and the Motorola logo is tastefully done in white. The rear camera module is also tidily positioned in the top left corner. Picking up the phone, you get the impression that it is a sturdy, durable device with a smooth, matte appearance.
The phone will survive a few splashes because it is “water-repellent,” but probably not much more than that. Of course, complete water- and dust-proofing is expensive, and phones at this price rarely include it. The phone is a little bit thicker and a little bit heavier than something like the Samsung Galaxy S22, measuring 161.8 x 74 x 8.6mm and weighing 184g altogether. We should also point out that you receive a straightforward plastic case, a charging cord, and a plug in the box along with the phone.
There is a 6.5-inch, 1080 x 2400 pixel IPS LCD screen, which means your apps will have plenty of room to spread out. The top of the device has a little circular cut-out for the selfie camera, and the bezels are a little bulky but otherwise good. Although the screen isn’t particularly brilliant or colorful, it does the job and is sharp and quick. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is impressive for a panel of this price point and allows for ultra-fluid scrolling and animations.
Performance and Battery
The Moto G62 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. If needed, you can expand this storage using the microSDXC slot. The low Geekbench scores of 545 (single-core), 1687 (multi-core), and 1072 indicate that these specifications are extremely basic (OpenCL). Even though this phone can run all the games and apps you need, it won’t do so swiftly.
Although you wouldn’t anticipate lightning-fast performance from an inexpensive phone like this, the device in question is actually quite slow. Although it’s not completely unusable, you may occasionally experience some sluggishness and stuttering, especially if you’re using a lot of apps or playing games that are very taxing on the phone.
Here, there is at least 5G, so no matter where the upgrades have been implemented, you can connect up to next-generation cellular speeds. It’s also important to note that the Moto G62’s stereo speakers support Dolby Atmos, which is uncommon, especially on cheap phones. As a result, you can anticipate superior audio whether listening to music or viewing movies on the device.
Along with this phone’s cost, the excellent battery life is undoubtedly one of its primary selling points. Streaming video reduces battery life by 10% every hour (with the screen at maximum brightness), so you can expect a total of about 10 hours. That 5,000mAh battery will easily get you through a demanding day in ordinary use, and with careful use, you might even get two days out of it. However, this phone does not enable wireless charging, and cable charging is limited to 15W.
Camera and Software
The Moto G62 has a triple-lens camera configuration on the rear that includes a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. There is a 16MP selfie camera on the front. Since there is no optical zoom available, you do, however, have access to a wide range of camera options, including a Pro mode that offers you more control over parameters like white balance. You can record video in a resolution of up to 1080p at 60 frames per second.
There aren’t many surprises with the camera performance: the Moto G62 can produce passable images, especially in favorable lighting conditions. This phone is more than capable of taking photos of your children or pets because the colors are well-balanced, the details are quite sharp, and the shutter is rapid. Additionally effective is the auto HDR setting, which painstakingly calibrates the darker and lighter portions of photographs.
This is not to imply that you won’t see a difference between images shot on this phone and photos taken on flagship devices, especially in more difficult lighting situations or with moving subjects. Although these aren’t the sharpest, richest, or most detailed pictures we’ve ever seen, if you’re looking for something that will consistently shoot good shots for your social media feeds, this is a good option.
To be honest, we don’t mind that Motorola doesn’t play around much with Android. The phone ships with Android 12 installed, but an Android 13 update is anticipated to emerge soon. There isn’t much bloatware in this package, and you even get a nice personalized home screen widget with the time and the weather, but there are a few Moto apps we could do without.
Price
The primary function of this phone is to affordably introduce 5G mobile internet to individuals who haven’t used it yet.
It costs £199/$399AU and is obviously designed to fall under certain price thresholds. (Although it wasn’t generally accessible in the US at the time of the review, you can anticipate paying roughly $280.)
The Moto G62 and the more expensive Moto G82, which is a little bit more potent, a little bit thinner, and has a better OLED display, were both unveiled in June 2022. If you’re importing, be aware that the Moto G62 comes in a different configuration for the Indian market that has a superior Snapdragon 695 SoC and additional RAM. It will function a little bit better than the model we’ve just seen.
