Meta wants its Next VR Headset to Replace Your Laptop

Mark Zuckerberg hopes that the announcement of his company’s next premium VR device will be a “iPhone moment” for virtual reality, with widespread consumer acceptance. To realise that goal, Zuckerberg’s firm, Meta, will begin by replacing your trusty laptop with goggles.

Meta wants its next VR headset to replace your laptop

Meta, the corporation that owns Facebook and Oculus, is developing on an unnamed premium virtual reality headgear codenamed Project Cambria, which it hinted at its Connect conference. Project Cambria features eye-tracking and facial recognition monitoring to capture your face expressions, as well as novel optics that aren’t available on current VR headsets.

When this new high-end mixed reality experience add to the headset, Zuckerberg and his team hope that it will make it easier for people to work, communicate, and collaborate in the corporate metaverse better. As long as Meta has its way, you can’t get away from work.

Zuckerberg told the company’s most recent earnings call that Project Cambria is a headset that’s mostly for business use. He said that, in the end, the experience will “[replace] your laptop or work setup.”

The technology behind Project Cambria was shown off at Meta’s Connect conference last month, and the company said it would cost more than the $299 Quest 2 headset.

If you think about it, Zuckerberg’s decision to go into the metaverse doesn’t seem weird. He had split Facebook’s parent company into a new company called Meta, and he had changed the overall focus from social media to the metaverse. Facebook also owns WhatsApp and Instagram. The CEO said that money from ads on social media would be used to build out Meta’s vision for the future of augmented and virtual reality.

These investments are likely to have an impact on Meta’s growth in the years to come. They lost almost $3 billion in the first quarter of 2022 across all their businesses. Reality Labs, the augmented reality unit of Meta, lost more than $10 billion.

“It’s not going to be until those products hit the market and scale in a meaningful way, and this market ends up being big, that this will be a big revenue or profit contributor to the business,” Zuckerberg said in the call, as reported by TechCrunch. “This is laying the groundwork for what I expect to be a very exciting 2030.” Read more; Baseus Blade 100W Power Bank Review

Microsoft’s HoloLens, HTC’s Vive headset, and other consumer VR, AR, and mixed reality glasses will likely be competing with the company’s virtual reality glasses when they go on sale. In the past, Apple has been rumoured to get into augmented reality. However, Apple’s efforts to make augmented reality commercial seem to have slow down.

Meta wants its next VR headset to replace your laptop

Project Cambria is not release yet. Meta rumour to be working on another headset called Nazare, which can remove and sold as soon as 2024. Recently, Nazare was talked about in a profile. It is said to have a wide field of view, 3D graphics, and a design that would be OK to wear in public. The Verge said that Zuckerberg has a personal stake in the project and that no expense was spared to make it happen.

Virtual reality is a big part of Meta’s business, but the company has had a lot of changes in its executive team recently. There have been a lot of high-profile people leaving. To keep things from getting out of hand, Mark Zuckerberg had put Facebook veterans in important roles and made smart acquisitions and hiring decisions, like hiring Don Box, a technical fellow from Microsoft who now works on software engineering for glasses at Meta. Investors aren’t sure if Meta’s investment in augmented reality will cause them to lose a lot of money before they get scared. As of right now, Zuckerberg says Meta is “the best company for building the future of social interaction and the metaverse.” This is what he says. Zuckerberg doesn’t think that these investments will pay off until at least the 2030s, at the very least.
