You can take Apple’s AirPods with you anywhere and use them at home or on the go. But this is a recipe for disaster for people like me who forget things or get bored easily. You’re not the only one if this sounds like you. More than 5% of the AirPods that Apple sells each year are replacements. People spend $700 million a year on lost AirPods. If you’re worried about losing your expensive AirPods, you should add them to Find My iPhone.

Find My iPhone can play a sound to help you find a single lost earbud or a charging case on a map. If you don’t set this up right, you’ll be one of the millions of people who have to buy a new pair of AirPods.

You have to do a few things to set up the feature before you lose them. We’ll show you how to check your Find My iPhone if you’re here because you can’t find your AirPods.

How to Add AirPods to Find My iPhone

The AirPods from Apple is one of the best wireless headsets on the market right now. Even better, the Find My feature can help you find your AirPods if you lose them. But you can’t use AirPods to turn on Find My iPhone without a second device. What can you do then?

Well, there is a trick to adding your AirPods to Find My iPhone. First, you have to pair your AirPods with a device that can use iCloud (an iPhone, iPad, or Mac). Then, Apple will add your AirPods to the list of things that you can find with Find My iPhone.

Follow these steps to add your AirPods to Find My iPhone (also known as Find My):

Step 1: Pair Your AirPods to Your iOS Device

You have to find your AirPods in the device list.

The only way to find any of your Apple devices, including AirPods, is to use the Find My feature. But unlike the Watch, iPad, or iPhone, you can’t enable the AirPod’s Find My iPhone feature from the device. You’ll need to pair your AirPods with a device that runs iOS or macOS first.

If you haven’t done so already, make sure your AirPods are paired with an Apple device that is attached to your iCloud account. Go to the Bluetooth settings and look in the list of devices for your AirPods.

Helpful Hint: Tap the i icon to the right of your AirPods and change the name. This step makes iCloud and the Find My application easier.

Step 2: Go to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch settings

Find the Settings icon on your device.

Your iPhone’s settings are your AirPods’ central command hub. Here, you can change the AirPods name, customize features, and add your AirPods to Find My iPhone. Therefore, to begin, launch Settings on your iOS device.

Step 3: Tap on Your Name at the Top

Click on your name at the top of the Settings page.

Instead of going to the Bluetooth settings, we’ll manage to Find My iPhone in your iCloud settings. Find My iPhone had its own tab on the Settings home page in older versions of iOS. But now, when we click on your name, we need to get to that option. At the top of the Settings page, you’ll see it.

At the top of the Settings window, click on your name.

Step 4: Click “Find My

“Find My” is towards the bottom of the page.

Here, you will see the Find My iPhone settings.

Tap on Find My in the list that appears.

Step 5: Tap Find My iPhone

Click on Find My iPhone.

Tap Find My iPhone next. Make sure that Send Last Location, Find My Network, and Find My iPhone are all green. If they’re not green, tap the toggle switch to make them so.

Check Find My iPhone for your AirPods

Now, you need to make sure that your AirPods are talking to your iCloud. You can use the Find My app or a web browser. We’ll show you how to use both apps to find your AirPods.

Step 1. Check the Find My App

Use the Find My app to check your device settings.

Now, it’s a good idea to make sure that your AirPods show up in the list of “Find My Devices.” You can use the Find My app on your iOS device if you’d rather.

Open the app and at the bottom, tap Devices. Then tap the AirPods. You should be able to hear a sound, get directions, and see where they are on a map.

Step 2: Use a Web Browser to Check Find My iPhone

The Find My app in a web browser.

If you’d rather use Find My in your web browser, you can still track your AirPods that way. Open the browser and go to the website for iCloud. Then, go to your account and sign in.

Click the “Find My app” button. Then, at the top, click All Devices. The list should show your AirPods. Click on them to find out where they are. You can also play a sound and find your lost friends.

Find My AirPods

There are some problems with the Find My feature. For example, older AirPod models won’t show up on the map in your Find My iPhone app if they aren’t charged or are close to another paired device. But the feature is still useful, especially if you lose your AirPods at home or at work.

Find My iPhone lets you play a sound to find a lost bud or see where you last left it, and it’s very easy to add your AirPods to it. Then it will be easier to keep track of your tiny but valuable AirPods.

FAQs

Can I track my AirPods using Find My iPhone?

The answer to this question depends on which model of AirPods you have and if you’ve set up Find My iPhone. Assuming you’ve done the steps above, you can track your AirPods on a map as long as they are charged and within range of a nearby device.

If your AirPods aren’t showing up but you know they have a full charge, it’s a good idea to take their companion device and go back over your steps. The map will show the buds when your iPhone or iPad is close enough to them to connect.

Can I blocklist stolen AirPods?

I’m sorry, but no. Your AirPods are not directly linked to your iCloud account. If someone else takes your AirPods, they can easily pair them to their own Apple device, and you won’t be able to find them on your map anymore.

Why does Find My iPhone say “No location found?”

If Find My says “No location found” next to your AirPods, it means that your AirPods aren’t sending a signal.

This message shows up when your iCloud account can’t track the headphones because they aren’t charged or are too far away from another Apple device.

What do I do if I lose my AirPods?

If you lose your AirPods, the only way to get them back is to track them with Find My iPhone.
But if all else fails, you can order replacement parts from Apple. For example, you can order a new pair of AirPods if you lose one.
