We find out if Google Assistant on iOS is worth downloading
Thanks to a separate app available on Apple’s App Store, you can use Google Assistant just like Siri.
But can Apple’s default voice assistant be replaced by this one? We’ll explain everything.

What is Google Assistant, how does it work, and which devices offer it?
What is Google Assistant?
There are many different types of assistants out there. Google Assistant is just one of them. There is a lot of information about Google Assistant in Pocket-detailed lint’s guide. It tells you how it works, what it can do, and works on different devices and apps.
How does Google Assistant on iPhone work?
Setup
The first thing you need to do is download the free Google Assistant app from Apple’s App Store. Then, sign in to your Google account to use the app. Using different features will ask for permission to do different things as you try to use other features. Bluetooth, location, and notifications could also be part of this. You’ll be taken to the chat screen in the app and told what you could ask. Ask: “What can you do?”
Ask a question
Using the microphone icon at the bottom of the chat screen, you can ask your question. You can also use the keyboard icon to bring up a keyboard and type your question into the Google Assistant box yourself.
Discover/Your Stuff
This is not just about answering questions. Google Assistant is also an excellent way to get helpful information and set reminders for things you need. When you open the Assistant app, a button on the bottom looks like an in-tray. Tap on it, and you’ll see a stream of helpful information and suggestions that you can use. Reminders or calendar events can also be found here, and today’s weather and any principal or public holidays are coming up soon.
Settings
There is a circle thumbnail picture in the top right corner. This takes you to your account and Assistant settings when you click on it.
To change your personal information, set up routines for your smart home, and more, go to Settings. You can add payment options and manage devices and services like your Google Home or Spotify account. You can also change your assistant’s voice and more.
What can Assistant do that Siri can’t?
To help you understand how Google Assistant on the iPhone and Siri on the iPhone work, we’re only going to talk about how they work for this guide.
Launching your assistant
Siri is built into iOS, but Google Assistant is a separate app you need to download. Getting to Siri is easy if you hold down the iPhone’s power button or say, “Hey Siri.” With Google Assistant and other third-party apps, you have to open a separate app to get to them. You can set up a Siri shortcut to make it easy to get through Siri. As you know, Android phones aren’t the same as Apple phones. Google Assistant is always there and ready. Some phones even have an “assistant” button on them.
First, when you open the Google Assistant app on your iPhone, you have to sign in with a Google account. Using Siri for the first time on the iPhone doesn’t require you to enter your Apple ID. However, Siri works with the Apple ID you used to sign in to your phone.

Calls and texts
With Google Assistant, you can call or send a message on the iPhone. It’s not as easy as you might think, though. When you say, “Call Dad,” for example, the Assistant will bring up Dad’s name and start a phone call that you can cancel or keep. It asks for your message when you say, “Text Dad.” The Messages app comes up and asks you for your message. Siri can send messages without having to open an app. Read more; Dirty Pipe Makes Linux Privilege Escalation Easy.
Playing music
You can use Google Assistant to play music, but the experience isn’t clear. The first time you ask Google Assistant to play some music, it will ask you to choose between Apple Music and YouTube as the default. You can change this. On YouTube, we decided on AC/DC and said, “Play.” In the next step, it opened up YouTube and played a random song from the band. To play Father John Misty on Assistant, we said, “Play Father John Misty.” It gave us a list of albums to choose from.
That was when we asked the Assistant to play a song on Apple Music, and it did as we asked. As far as we can tell, Apple Music has become our default music player. It was then that we couldn’t figure out how to change YouTube back to the default again. So, we think that this feature still needs to be improved. Siri can now be used to play music. When you ask it to play music, it will always play it on Apple Music and let you open Apple Music.
Google apps
As long as you have a Google app, you can use Google Assistant. The Gmail app can be used to send an email. You can also use Google Maps instead of Apple Maps to get directions. With Siri, your email will always go through Apple’s Mail app and can be done without opening the app. Siri can also unlock some third-party apps, like Google Maps.
Restrictions
Some iOS restrictions limit what Google Assistant can do. Using the Google Assistant app, you can see how many reminders, a to-do list, and a shopping list you have set. If you want to set alarms, open the camera to take selfies (or open any app on command), post to social networks like Twitter or Facebook, call a ride-hailing app like Uber or Lyft, and more, Google Assistant can’t do all of these things.
You also can’t open apps like Whatsapp to send a message, so you can’t do that. Siri can do all of that. If you want to make a note, Google Assistant can set it up with a place and time, but Siri can only put the things you asked her to put on your iPhone. Explore
Apple has made Siri available to third-party apps, and Siri Shortcuts can now do more complicated things than before. It’s a little hard to set up at first, but once it’s done, it feels pretty easy. It’s different with the Google Assistant app, though. There’s a tab called “Explore” that has a lot of ideas about what you can do with the app, though. We also like that Assistant gives us access to other chatbots, like Genius, which guesses the name of a song based on a small part of it.
Context
Both of the assistants are getting better at remembering where things have been. We answered the second question, “How old is the Queen of England?” with “95.”
