The Canon R6 vs R5 camera: Key Differences

As two of the best digital cameras in the world, each has its pros and cons. Here are 5 major ways in which the R6 and R6 are different:

1. ISO specifications

The ISO number tells you how sensitive a digital camera is to CMOS light. Higher ratings mean the camera is more sensitive and works better in low-light situations. Even though it has fewer features, the Canon R6 has twice as high of a native ISO as the Canon R5 (up to 102,400 vs 51,200). Not only is the R6’s native ISO higher, but its low light ISO of 3394 is also a little better than the R5’s low light ISO of 3042.

2. LCD screen

The R5’s LCD screen is much bigger, and its resolution is 29% better than the R6. The Canon R5 also has an LCD screen that makes it easy to see and change settings.

3. Focus and resolution

With 132 more focus points, R6 also has a better sensitivity focus than R5. It has 122 per cent more pixels than the R5 does.

But regarding resolution, the Canon EOS R5 is worth the price. The R5’s viewfinder has 5760 dots, while the R6’s only has 3690. This high-end camera has a sensor resolution over twice as high as the R6. It also has more colour depth and a wider range of brightness.

4. Video

When it comes to video recording, the R5 also shines. It can record up to 8K video, while the R6 can only record 4K. It also has a much higher bit rate, improving the video quality. When shooting 4K video on the R5, the camera can crop the footage, which is something the R6 can’t do.

5. Battery and storage

The Canon R5 is compatible with CFexpress Cards, commonly used to store high-resolution photos. The R6 only has slots for UHS-II cards. Even though it weighs 58 grams less than the R5, the R6 has a longer battery life and can take at least 40 more pictures per charge.

Similarities

The sensor on the R6 and R5 is protected by a mechanism that closes when the dust is present. Both the R5 and R6 cameras can connect to Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth. They have image stabilization and shake correction built into the body (up to 8 stops)

Both cameras have the fastest frame rate of any mirrorless camera worldwide. LP-E6NH batteries with more power are used in the Canon EOS R5 and R6 cameras. The cameras work with lenses with Canon RF, EF, or EF-S mounts.

The R6 and R5 cameras have a microphone and a voice recorder built right in. Both cameras are good for taking selfies and can be used as a webcam.

Both cameras can take pictures in CR3, HEIF, and JPG formats. The cameras also have an electronic viewfinder, a large LCD screen with a high resolution, and a big dial on the back.

What is the Canon EOS R6?

The Canon EOS R6 is one of the most advanced digital cameras on the market. It was made with professional photographers, advanced enthusiasts, and prosumers in mind. It came out at the same time as the Canon EOS R5 on July 9, 2020. This mirrorless camera has one lens to switch out and an electronic viewfinder with 3.69 million dots and 120 frames per second. R6 has been liked by many. Professional photographers say it’s easy to use, makes beautiful pictures, and makes getting the right shot easy and natural.

Key specifications

The Canon EOS R6 has all the features you would expect from a Pro mirrorless camera. Additional features have been added since its release in 2020. Here are the need-to-know specs of the Cannon R6 body:

About Canon

Since almost 85 years ago, the Japanese multinational company Canon has been known for its optical and imaging technology. The company made Japan’s first 35mm camera with a shutter based on the focal plane. It was called the Kwanon, a religious word and where the company name comes from. The company makes more than just cameras. It also makes scanners, printers, lenses, and imaging equipment for medical and industrial use.

Since 1984, when it came out with the RC-701, Canon has made digital cameras. It also makes the EOS line of digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, which many professional photographers use.

Canon’s consumer sales have dropped a lot since the rise of cameras in smartphones, but the market for its high-end professional cameras is still strong.

What is the Canon EOS R5?

The Canon EOS R5 is a high-end mirrorless digital camera in the same EOS series as the R6, but it costs more and has better specs. It is a full-frame camera with a lens that can be changed like the R6. The R5 and the R6 were both released on July 9, 2020. They have been well received and sold, and professional photographers like Ken Rockwell and others have given them excellent reviews.

Even though it came out two years ago, this digital camera is still up there with the best mirrorless cameras in the world. This is why:

The EOS R5 takes the most and best pictures of any camera on the market right now.

  • 45-megapixel full-frame sensor
  • 4K, 1080 pixel video recording at up to 120 frames per second.
  • 100% active autofocus coverage with over 1050 individual autofocus points.
  • The native ISO ranges from 100 to 102,400. The ISO settings can go up to more than 200,000.
  • Continuous high-speed shooting at up to 12 frames per second with the mechanical shutter and 20 frames per second with the electronic shutter.
  • In-body image stabilization and shake correction (up to 8 stops)
  • Two SD memory card slots for UHS-II and CFexpress memory cards.
  • 0.5-inch OLED digital viewfinder with 5.76 million dots and a refresh rate of 120 frames per second.
  • Auto-brightness control for the viewfinder
  • Vari-angle LCD touchscreen and large rear dial.

About Canon EOS

EOS stands for “Electro-Optical System.” Since 1987, Canon has been making a range of SLR and mirrorless cameras with this name. Since then, Canon has made more than 70 EOS cameras, including the Canon R6 and R5.

Since 2005, all EOS cameras have been digital, and they use Canon’s digital image sensors. The mirrorless interchangeable lens camera system (MILC) came out in 2012. These cameras carry a unique EF lens mount. This bayonet-style mount doesn’t connect the camera’s moving parts to the lens in any way. Instead, electrical contacts inside the lens control its aperture and focus.

Along with the cameras in the EOS line, a line of Speedlite flashes has also been made. You can choose from wired or wireless flash setups and link up to 16 flashes together in a radio network.

Is the Canon R5 really better than the R6?

If you have the money, the R5 lets you buy a mirrorless camera that is fast and has a high resolution. It also has technology that will keep it competitive with other cameras in the future. If a pro photographer uses this camera, it will probably pay for itself in a few months.

The Canon R5, in particular, is very good at tracking, which makes it a great camera for shooting wildlife, sports, and action. Images are clear even at fast frame rates and don’t blur or go black.

Either of these cameras would be fine for a professional photographer. Even though the R5 has a higher resolution, a closer look at its specs shows that the R6 is better in multiple ways.

If you don’t need 45 megapixels, the Canon R6 is as fast and has higher ISO settings and a larger buffer. It weighs less and uses fewer data and battery, so you can take more pictures on a full charge and have more space on your SD card. The R6 also costs almost $1000 less, so consider this.
