Portable batteries have always been useful, but as more and bigger devices start to use the USB Power Delivery standard, they have become even more important for travel and back-up. Using a power bank with a high enough charge rate can now be used with a lot of laptops, as well as tablets, phones, handheld games, and other accessories.
I’ve been using the Blade battery from Baseus for about two weeks now. It has a maximum charge rate of 100W and four USB ports. It has worked well for a while, even though it has a few flaws. If you’re looking for a new battery, it might be worth getting.
Pricing and Availability
You can only get the Baseus Blade 100W from Amazon. There are some third-party listings on other retail sites and stores. Baseus had a “Clip Coupon” button on the product page at the time this review was written that would give you a $5 discount. The price is $99.99.
Baseus Blade 100W Power Bank: Design and Hardware
This battery is very big. It is 13.5 x 16 x 1 centimeters, which is a lot of space (5.3 x 6.3 x 0.4 inches). However, because it’s still very thin, it will slide into the pockets of most bags without a hitch. It doesn’t move around on a flat surface because it has four rubber feet on each corner. If you look at the battery, you won’t see any signs or logos. The only thing that looks like the font Disney uses for its Tomorrowland areas is the “100W” mark. It’s a shame that this battery won’t play the tunnel music from Space Mountain while it’s charging.
It has four ports on top of the battery that are lined up next to each other. The two USB Type-C connectors can both charge at 100W, but not at the same time. We’ll talk about that in the next section. There are also two USB Type-A ports, which can charge up to 30W. (again, not simultaneously). Most devices charge over USB Type-A at a rate of 5W-18W, which is more than enough power.
Other than the front LED screen, the only other thing about this car is how it looks. When the battery is on, it shows you how much charge is left in the battery, how quickly it is charging, and how long it will take for the battery to run out. It also tells you how long it will take for the battery to run out. In order to figure out how much power is being used right now, you can add up the voltage and amps numbers together. Also, when the battery isn’t charging anything, the display can show you how much battery power you have if you press the power button at the top of the phone.
In most portable power banks, there is an LED screen that shows how much charge is left in the battery. It’s not very useful for anything else, though (which most other batteries can do with a series of dots). In this case, the screen only shows the charge rate for one of the devices, not the charge rate for all of them. As for which device it chooses for the charging rate indicator, if you plug in a laptop and mouse at the same time, it might choose to show how much electricity is being used up by the mouse.
Baseus Blade 100W Power Bank: Charging
There is enough power in the Baseus Blade battery to fully charge most phones and tablets several times over. I like that it has USB Type-C ports that can deliver 100W through the USB Power Delivery standard, which is good for laptops that need a lot of power. If you plug in another device on the other Type-C port, the speed of the charge is split between them. At up to 65W, the battery itself can be charged through either of the Type-C ports.
This battery also has two USB Type-A ports, which can each draw 30W at the same time. A company called Baseus says that the Type-A ports work with Huawei FCP and Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0. I tried them with my Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S22, both of which have QC, and I got about 10W. Read also; Huawei P50 Pocket Review: Specifications, Features
Tested: I used a Surface Laptop 4, Dell XPS 13, Asus Chromebook, Galaxy S22, and Google Pixel 3a to see if the Baseus Blade battery worked well with them. The battery seemed to be able to charge all of them at the fastest speed possible, but the battery sometimes has trouble with two devices charging at the same time over USB Type-C. A few times I was able to charge both my Galaxy S22 and Surface Laptop at the same time, but other times the phone was limited to 10W.
It’s one of the things I can’t test because I don’t own anything that can draw 100W over USB Power Delivery, so I can’t test the battery’s advertised maximum speeds. My Surface Laptop 4 can only draw 60W, which the battery can match without a problem. Amazon customer reviews say that it works at 100W with laptops like the Surface Book 2 and MSI Stealth 15M Gaming Laptops. These reports and my own tests show there’s no reason for me to think Baseus is lying about the battery’s power.
Should you buy the Baseus Blade 100W Power Bank?
The Baseus Blade is a good battery that can be used to charge almost anything that has a USB port, including many laptops. I have a few gripes, like how the display doesn’t show the total charging speed for all connected devices, or how the charging speeds sometimes don’t reach their maximum when there are a lot of devices connected. Otherwise, the battery does what it says it does. Read more; The HP Elite Dragonfly G3 for home office use
Having a large size and not being able to wirelessly charge your phone means this battery is best kept in a bag with your laptop or tablet, not taken with your phone everywhere you go. There is still enough power even if you don’t plan to use it with a laptop.
