Apple will likely announce the Watch Series 8 before the end of the year. However, there have been rumors that the smartwatch will be joined by a second-generation Apple Watch SE and a more rugged Apple Watch, which is now being called the Apple Watch Pro.
We’ve already talked about the rumors about the Apple Watch Pro and the Apple Watch Series 8, but now we’re going to look at what we might be able to expect from the next generation of the Apple Watch SE.

Release Date and Price
It has been said that Apple could have an event on September 13. This would fit with the company’s usual release schedule. The iPhone 14 series is likely to be shown at the event, but the next Apple Watch models are usually shown simultaneously.
The first Apple Watch SE came out with the Series 6 in September 2020, and many reports say the next one will come out with the Series 8, which is expected to come out in September 2022.
In the UK, the Apple Watch SE starts at £249; in the US, it starts at $279. Since watchOS 9 won’t work on the Watch Series 3, Apple could drop the price of the original SE model to £199/$199 and keep the price of the second-generation SE the same as the original.
No matter what happens, the price of the Watch SE will be less than that of the Series 8 models.
Design and Display
- Same as current SE?
- 40/44mm case sizes?
- Always On display?
The original Apple Watch SE had the same look as the Watch Series 6, but it didn’t have some of the features. For example, it didn’t have the Always-On display or the heart rate sensor in the Digital Crown that let users take an ECG.
The design of the next generation Apple Watch SE hasn’t been talked about much, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the same design as the current model. The third generation iPhone SE didn’t change the design, after all.
If the design stays the same, there will be a Digital Crown on the right, a side button, and the whole thing will be rectangular with rounded corners. The sizes of the current Watch SE are 40mm and 44mm, not 41mm and 45mm like the Series 7.
It’s possible that the new Watch SE will get an update that adds the “Always On” display that came out with the Series 5 but keeps the same size case as the current SE instead of making the screen bigger while keeping the same footprint. For now, though, we don’t know. Read More; Apple Watch Series 7 real-world images surface ahead of expected launch
Hardware
Same chip as Series 8 GPS/GPS and Cellular
It has been said that the next Watch SE could have the same chip as the Watch Series 8, which would be a big improvement over the current SE model. The 2020 Watch SE had the same chip as the Watch Series 5, and the Watch Series 6 was a step up. However, the Watch Series 7 has the same chip as the Watch Series 6, and the Watch Series 8 is expected to have the same chip as well.
Even if that is the case, the new Watch SE will still be better than the current one. It will have the same chip as the Series 8 model, just like the iPhone SE, which has the same chip as the iPhone 13.

We’d expect the optical heart rate sensor and many of the other sensors, and it’s possible that the new Watch SE will also have an electrical heart rate sensor. This would let users take an ECG by opening the ECG app and placing their fingers on the Digital Crown.
There are rumors that the Watch Series 8 will also have a body temperature sensor, but we don’t think this will be on the Watch SE. After all, there has to be a difference between the models.
Like the current Watch SE model, there will probably be GPS-only models and models with both GPS and cellular. Read Also; Apple Watch Series 7 with Apple Fitness+
Features
Even though the new Watch SE won’t have all of the features of the Watch Series 8, we still expect it to have many of the most important features of the Series 8.
The new Watch SE will also come with watchOS 9, which is due in September. You can read about the new features that come with the new software build in a separate article, but the Workout app and sleep tracking are getting better.
Even though it doesn’t have all the latest and greatest features like the Series 8 or Apple Watch Pro, we still think the new Watch SE will be a great smartwatch with features like Fall Detection, great workout tracking, and great smartphone notifications. Apple Watch 8 — Everything We Know So Far
