Apple was quietly all over CES 2022

A lot of people go to CES, which is the biggest tech show of the year, but Apple is never there. Still, the company’s technology and products have been all over the place at the show. You can unlock your smart door lock with your iPhone, new accessories that work with Apple’s Find My network, and Intel’s efforts to keep up with Apple’s powerful computer chips at CES 2022.

It’s not very unusual for Apple to have a “hidden” presence at CES, but this is not the first time. In 2019, for example, the integration of AirPlay 2 into new TV models was one of the show’s big topics, like it was in 2018.

Apple also put up a huge billboard near the Las Vegas strip during CES that year to show its support for privacy, which has been a hot-button issue for Google and Amazon, who have been big CES draws for years.

But this year, the company’s influence is still very clear. Newer Apple technologies like Find My and MagSafe may be to blame. These newer technologies rely on third-party accessory makers, who usually show off their new lines at CES.

More gadgets that work with Apple’s platforms

People can find Apple technology in everything from new backpacks to earbuds and smart door locks at CES. There were a lot of new products at CES 2022 that worked with Apple’s Find My location service, as well as its connected-home platform and MagSafe charger.

Take Targus’ new Cypress Hero Backpack, which the company showed off at CES. You don’t need to buy a separate AirTag to see it on a map in Apple’s app because it has a built-in tracker that works with Find My.

A button inside the bag also sends a ping to the user’s iPhone if it gets lost. During the spring or summer, you can buy the Targus Cypress Hero Backpack for $150.

Chipolo, a company that makes Bluetooth tracking devices like Tile, also announced a new Find My-compatible product at the CES trade show this year. It was one of the first brands to use Apple’s Find My network with its One Spot last year. Now, it’s coming out with a new credit card-shaped model that fits in wallets.

Keep an eye on the Chipolo Card Spot like you keep an eye on the Targus backpack, AirTags, and other compatible accessories in Apple’s Find My app. You can do this by going to the Items tab. Costs $35 and starts in February.

There were also new earbud models from Belkin at CES 2022. The company was one of the first to add Find My support last year. If you buy the Soundform Immerse earbuds, they will come with Find My support, just like the older Soundform Freedom True earbuds.

Apple opened its Find My platform to third-party developers in April, but accessory makers haven’t used it yet. As Apple devices near each other send out Bluetooth signals, a group of people can help Apple’s Find My network figure out where the lost item is.

We also saw one of the first smart locks that will work with Apple’s Home Keys at CES 2022. Schlage is releasing a new version of its Encode smart lock that will let you unlock your home door just by tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch against it. This new version of the lock will be called Encode 2.0. If you use the key like Apple Pay, it won’t need your phone to be unlocked or a specific app to be opened. Belkin Wemo’s video doorbell and Eve’s floodlight camera were two other HomeKit-powered products that were on display at the show as well. In terms of other Apple-related products, Scosche has made a car mount that can be used with Apple’s MagSafe tech.

Intel wants to compete with, and play well with, Apple.

Intel showed off a lot of new 12th-generation processors at the CES 2022 trade show in Las Vegas. These processors can be used in cheap laptops, Chromebooks, gaming laptops, and thin-and-light notebooks. Apple’s M1-series laptops have been well-received, but the company says that its most powerful new chips can beat them. It shows that Intel is taking Apple’s move into the chip-making business very seriously.

Intel also wants to make it easier for Windows PCs to communicate with the iPhone and the Apple Watch. This is not the only thing Intel wants to do. That will be one of the main new things in the next version of Intel’s Evo platform, a set of rules for making sure that laptops that are certified meet the same standards for performance, battery life, and other things. You can now see and respond to iMessages on Windows thanks to Intel. At its CES 2022 press conference, Intel showed how you can do this. The way Apple’s phones and laptops work together has been a big reason why Macs are so popular with people who own iPhones. A move like this could help Windows PC makers fight back against that idea and better reach out to Mac fans.

Apple always stands out at CES.

For the most part, Apple is the only big tech company that doesn’t go to CES very often in an official role. Whether or not they have new products to show off, companies like Google and Microsoft show off how their platforms can be used in cars, home appliances, PCs, and more.

Apple hasn’t been to CES as an official company since 1992, but its chief privacy officer will be there in 2020 to talk about privacy. But I’m starting to think that it might not be a good idea to do that. They are as important as ever for Apple, which is trying to get into more and more new product categories, especially in the home. During CES, that’s one of the main things people are looking at. Apple hasn’t always been as good at this as Amazon and Google.

Google, Amazon, Samsung, and Microsoft all go to CES every year. Apple isn’t going to show up like they do. But I think that CES will show how well Apple’s new technologies and services are being used by people.
