‘iPhone 14 tips and tricks’ – New iPhones provide new features. That came in iOS 16, operating on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. If you got a new iPhone during the holidays or had one earlier, we’re confident you’ve figured out the basics by now. However, if you dig a bit deeper, there are always small nuggets of gold.
We’ve selected a handful of the features that we believe are most beneficial – or simply useful – to know to check them out below;
iPhone 14 tips and tricks
1 Turn on the haptic keyboard.
Apple added haptic feedback to its default keyboard as part of iOS 16. Finally. You may notice small taps or vibrations beneath the display when you type. Go to Settings > Sound and Haptics > Keyboard feedback to enable it. Select the ‘Haptic’ option.
2 Modify your notification style.
In iOS 16, the bottom of your Lock Screen displays a number – or ‘count’ – of notifications to let you know how many notifications are awaiting you. However, this can be changed to a list of notifications or a stack of notification windows.
Go to Settings > Notifications and select one of the other two options under ‘Display As’ at the top of the screen.
3 Turn off the always-on display (14 Pro only)
As one of the iPhone 14 tips and tricks, iPhone 14 Pro includes an always-on display that dims the wallpaper while highlighting the clock. It is activated by default, but it may be ineffective or consumes your power. So you can turn it off if you wish.
Open Settings, tap ‘Display and Brightness,’ and deactivate the ‘Always On’ option. Simple.
If you don’t want it to be off all the time and want it on during the day, you may arrange for it to turn off at night as part of the sleep mode. Go to Settings > Focus > Sleep. Under the ‘Arrange’ menu, you can schedule a sleep focus to activate at a specific time each night. When turned on, your always-on display will no longer be visible at night.
4 Battery percentage display
There is a new battery percentage indicator that you can enable to display the exact percentage in the battery icon in your status bar. Go to Settings > Battery and allow the ‘battery percentage’ option to enable it.
5 Lock a private note behind Face ID
You may now secure an individual note with FaceID authentication. You can no longer encrypt it with your phone’s passcode. To enable this function, click on Settings > Notes and tap the ‘Password’ option. Select ‘Use Device Passcode’ on the following page and then toggle ‘Use FaceID.’ You no longer need to use a password to unlock notes.
To lock a specific note, long press it within the app and then select ‘lock note’ from the pop-up menu that appears. The next time you open it, it will utilize FaceID to verify that you are trying to access it.
6 Remove Duplicate Photos
Apple’s new Photographs app allows you to quickly delete duplicate photos and conserve iPhone and iCloud storage space.
Open Photos and select ‘Albums.’ Scroll to the bottom of the page until you find ‘Duplicates’ in the list. You may now either click ‘merge’ near each match or select’ at the top and manually choose each image you want to eliminate before clicking the delete trash can icon at the bottom.
7 Drag foreground subjects away from backgrounds into new documents
One of the fantastic new iOS 16 features is the ability to separate topics from photo backdrops and share them as a cutout in any app. You may swiftly drag and drop it into another document or onto an image you’re working on in Photoshop, Pages, or something similar with the correct method.
Tap and hold the topic, as usual, to remove it from the backdrop, then use your other hand to swipe out of the app and open the app you want to drop it into.
For example, if it’s Pages, open it, make a new document (or open an existing one), and then drop the image.
Suppose you want to share another method. In that case, as we demonstrated in our iOS 16 video, you can tap and hold the subject, wait for that white line to appear around it, and then select ‘share’ and choose where you want to share it to or ‘copy’ and then manually open the app and paste it in. 8 Edit or unsend iMessages
When you send a message, you may either a) immediately regret it and want to unsend it or b) make an embarrassing typo. Maybe even both. Thankfully, such issues have been addressed in iOS 16. You may now delete or amend iMessages.
Open Messages, type your message as usual and then long-press the message you just sent. You’ll see the ‘Edit’ and ‘Undo send’ options in the drop-down menu. Choose whatever you like at the time. However, if the person you’re sending it to doesn’t have iOS 16, the message will still appear as unsent to them.
9 Shoot 48-megapixel photos (14 Pro only)
This is yet another feature only accessible on the iPhone 14 Pro. It shoots at 48 megapixels, utilizing the total number of pixels available on the primary camera’s sensor.
Select ‘Formats’ at the top of the list in Settings > Camera. Toggle on the ‘Apple ProRAW’ option, select the resolution and verify that 48-megapixels are selected. When you launch the camera app, a ‘RAW’ toggle will appear at the top of the screen. Tap it to activate the full 48-megapixel RAW shot.
10 Customize Spatial Audio
With iOS 16, you may personalize your Spatial Audio in your AirPods by using the front-facing FaceID sensors. It is compatible with AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro (first and second gen).
To use it, open your AirPods case, connect them, and go to the Settings app. Tap on the AirPods in the list, then select ‘Personalised Spatial Audio’ on the following page. Then, select the ‘Personalize Spatial Audio’ option on the next screen.
It will now guide you through a procedure in which it will utilize the front-facing depth sensors to measure your face and ears and use that data to create a Spatial Audio profile that will operate with your AirPods connected.

11 Manually turn on or off macro mode.
Another essential feature is the manual macro mode switch, which is helpful because auto-switching between 1x and macro can be startling in recent phone generations. Return to Settings > Camera and turn on the ‘Macro Control’ switch.
When you move your camera close to an object, the macro logo should appear yellow on the screen. It is enabled by default. However, you can disable it by simply tapping the emblem when it displays.
12 Quick Note
Quick Note is a feature in iOS that allows you to begin composing a note in the Notes app rapidly. Open Control Centre and seek the control that looks like a note page with a plus icon. A new note will be created in the Notes app when you tap it.
