Apple AirPods Pro 2: What We Know So Far

Even though they aren’t officially real, a lot depends on the Apple AirPods Pro 2. That’s because there are a lot of great wireless earbuds with good sound and noise cancellation on the market.

The next-generation “pro” earbuds will come after the AirPods 3, and they should also improve on the current AirPods Pro. We hope that the AirPods Pro 2 will have some of the improvements we want and become some of the best wireless earbuds you can buy soon. At least one editor at Tom’s Guide is more excited about the AirPods Pro 2 than the iPhone 14.

Samsung will also put pressure on Apple if it releases the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2 noise-canceling true wireless earbuds before Apple releases the AirPods Pro 2.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Release Date

The latest rumor is that Apple will release the AirPods Pro 2 on September 13, 2022, along with the iPhone 14 and a number of other products.

Apple’s next-generation “pro” AirPods could steal the show by supporting the “biggest innovation” in years for wireless earbuds: state-of-the-art noise-canceling technology.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, thinks that the AirPods Pro 2 will go into mass production in the second half of the year. This would add fuel to the rumor that the next-generation AirPods will come out this fall.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Price

The original AirPods Pro has an MSRP of $249. When they came out, they were the most expensive wireless earbuds on the market. Apple probably won’t lower the price, given how well they continue to sell and how many deals there are on AirPods. This is even more true now that there are options like the Master & Dynamic MW08 and Bowers & Wilkins PI7 that are even more expensive.

A Twitter leaker named @LeakApplePro says that the AirPods Pro 2 will cost the same as its predecessor. This backs up our theory.

If major changes are made, Apple might feel forced to raise the price by $25 or $50. Still, rumors that Apple will keep the price of the AirPods Pro 2 at $249 seem to be true. Even more so if the price of the original AirPods Pro goes down to make up for it.

Apple did this with the AirPods 3. They cost $179, which is a little more than the AirPods 2’s $159 price, but this time they come with a wireless charging case, which used to cost an extra $40. Apple also lowered the price of the AirPods 2 to $129, so it seems likely that it will do the same with the Pro line. If it keeps the price of the new model about the same as the old one, it will lower the price of the old model. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that Apple will stop making the AirPods Pro when it releases the Pro 2. All of this, though, goes against that idea.

There have also been rumors that Apple might make a cheaper version of the AirPods Pro called “AirPods Pro Lite” that would cost $199 and go on sale at an unknown time. For the Lite version to cost less, it’s likely that some high-end features will be left out.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Design

The stems of the AirPods Pro 2 could be eliminated, according to an earlier Bloomberg story. However, a subsequent rumor from MacRumors asserts that the AirPods Pro 2 will include a style that is identical to the AirPods Pro.

In fairness, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg had initially stated that the challenge of cramming noise cancellation, wireless antennas, and microphones into a small container “may result in a less ambitious design when the product is finalized.”

Mac Otakara provides additional information on the design of the AirPods Pro 2. (opens in new tab). The charging case for this model will be smaller, according to a website with connections to Asian supply networks and accessory producers. The measurements are as follows: 46mm high, 54mm wide, and 21mm thick.

The rumored first pictures of the AirPods Pro 2 showed a design that was comparable to the AirPods Pro. The case would be slightly different if it had speaker holes on the bottom and, among other things, a hole for a lanyard.

According to a fresh Mr. White Twitter leak (opens in new tab), the AirPods Pro 2 may come in two distinct sizes (opens in new tab). We’ll have to wait and see whether this report is true because this account doesn’t have the best track record.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Specs

It is said that the AirPods Pro 2 will focus a lot more on fitness, with better sensors and features for tracking your workouts.

No one knows for sure what these features are, but they could be like how the Soul Blade earbuds can track your heart rate or how the Amazon Echo Buds 2 can track your steps, distance, duration, calories, and pace in “Workout” mode.

Apple executive Kevin Lynch has also said that the AirPods might get more ways to track your fitness. Lynch didn’t specifically mention the AirPods Pro 2 or any other model, but he did say that there was “all kinds of potential” for AirPods to use sensor fusion. This lets two sets of sensors, like those in an iPhone and an Apple Watch, work together to make tracking more accurate.

Since the current AirPods Pro already have accelerometers and gyroscopes, it’s easy to see how Apple’s sensor fusion system could be added to the AirPods Pro 2. It would also work well with new features in iOS 15 like walking steadiness.

We don’t know much else about the AirPods Pro 2, but it’s likely that they have many of the same features as the ones that have been rumored.

This includes improvements to bone conduction technology, support for third-party apps, and compatibility with the Apple AirTag, which makes it easier to find your AirPods if you lose them. The transparency mode can also be used to warn users of potential dangers.

The shape of the user’s ear canal could be used by future AirPods to figure out who is using them. This is described in an Apple patent application. Read also; How to pair Bluetooth Earbuds to the Apple Watch

Apple announced a number of upgrades to its current AirPods models at WWDC 2021. At least some of these upgrades are likely to include the AirPods Pro 2 as standard equipment. The features range from better support for “Find My” to a mode called “Conversation Boost” that is made to help people with mild hearing loss.

When iOS 15 came out in September, it added some new features to the first AirPods Pro, which are likely to be carried over to the second pair. These include Announce Notifications for audible reminders, Conversation Boost to hear voices better during chats, and extended spatial audio support (if needed) for Apple TV and Mac. You can also expect many features that were first added in iOS 14, such as automatic switching, support for Dolby Atmos, and spatial audio that gives listeners a theater-like experience. You should also keep an eye on Headphones Accommodation, which lets you change the frequency and amplify the sound, and Hearing Health, which tells users if they’re listening to music too loud.

Apple just bought the streaming service Primephonic, which plays classical music. This should give fans of classical music a more immersive listening experience. No one knows if this will work with spatial sound. What is known is that Apple Music subscribers will be able to access Primephonic content and playlists. They will also be able to browse and search Apple Music better by composer and repertoire.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Battery

Since there is no information about the AirPods Pro 2’s battery life, we can only go by what we know about the original model, which has a pretty short battery life.

The AirPods Pro’s battery life (4.5 hours) is less than that of the AirPods 3. (6 hours). There’s no reason to think it will get better. Depending on the specs, playtimes could even be shorter, but LeaksApplePro says the model will have “better battery life,” whatever that means. With 24 hours of playtime, you can also expect the wireless charging case to stay the same.

iOS 14 did add new settings to help manage the battery, like notifications and Optimized Battery Charging, which learns how you charge and only charges to 100% when it needs to. This helps keep the battery from getting old. Read More; What is Apple Spatial Audio, How Does it Work, and How to Get It?

At the moment, there isn’t much known about the AirPods Pro 2 charging case, but there are some rumors. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, for example, says that the case “can emit a sound for users to track,” which would be helpful if you lost the whole case but less so if you just lost the buds.

Patently Apple also found a patent for a new “bistable hinge” that could be used in a future version of the noise-canceling earbuds. This would make for a stronger and more reliable way to close the lid, using a part (possibly a cap) that snaps into place to keep the lid shut. If this is true, it’s almost certain that this version won’t come with the first-generation AirPods Pro. It could also be saved for a future model that isn’t called AirPods Pro 2.

Apple made a new smart case for the over-ear AirPods Max headphones that automatically puts them into a low-power state. For now, we don’t know if the AirPods Pro 2 will come with a hard case.

MagSafe charging is also likely to be added to the AirPods Pro 2, since the new AirPods 3 have it. MacRumors, however, thinks that this version will have IPX4 sweat and water resistance, which is something that no other AirPods charging case has.

Kuo thinks that the Lightning port will be replaced by a USB-C port in 2023. Unfortunately, this means that the analyst also thinks that the AirPods Pro 2 will stick with the Lightning port. This would be disappointing because it would mean that Apple still hasn’t switched all of its products to USB-C.
