AMD kicked off its 2022 product introductions with a new generation of notebook chips, following a successful run with the 5000 series CPUs. AMD’s new Ryzen 6000 series mobile processors signaled the start of a busy and crucial year. These “Rembrandt” APUs have up to eight zen3+ solid cores with the company’s latest RDNA 2 graphics to give consistent performance for everyday tasks, gaming, and more.
There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to the Ryzen 6000 series mobile CPUs, so we decided to put everything in one spot. Everything you need to know about AMD’s new Ryzen 6000 mobile processors is right here:
AMD Ryzen 6000 mobile CPUs

Ten different SKUs make up the Ryzen 6000 family of mobile processors. They are split into two main groups. There’s the U-series, which has 15W-28W hardware for small and light laptops. There’s also the H-series, which has up to 35W and 45W+ hardware for high-end gaming laptops. As a group, we’re looking at many different things that AMD says will be in more than 200 high-end computers in 2022.
AMD Zen3+ Cores
They are built on the new AMD “Zen 3+” core, designed to get more performance for less power. The AMD 6000 series processors use this new core. As a side note, these are the fastest AMD Ryzen processors yet, with up to 5GHz speeds. The new Zen3+ cores now have some new power management features that will help these chips last longer. Some of the new Ryzen 6000 series mobile processors use up to 30% less power than the previous generation. This is a lot of energy.
AMD RDNA 2 Architecture-Based Graphics

IF YOU DIDN’T ALREADY KNOW, the AMD Ryzen 6000 series of mobile CPUs are also the first mobile processors to have a GPU based on RDNA 2. New APUs can run twice as fast as the last-gen APUs, thanks to RDNA 2. With the help of AMD’s Fidelity FX, the Rembrandt APU is the first APU in the industry to have hardware ray-tracing, and AMD says it works perfectly with this help. As many as 12 graphics processing units can be found in the new 6000 mobile chips. They have a maximum GPU speed of up to 2.4GHz. When we’ve seen this before, there were eight Vega units. This one has more than that.
With up to 1.5x more GPU Compute Engines and up to 1.5x more memory bandwidth, AMD says the new chips will be able to play games while on the go. The company says it can play games at different graphics settings with just the APU. If you want to play games on a small and light computer, you should not have to buy a more powerful one.

A new set of mobile graphics solutions has also been released by AMD, which lets people use AMD’s Advantage platform with the new H35+ CPUs. Suppose you have a Ryzen 6000 series mobile processor and a 6000 series mobile GPU. In that case, you can use SmartShift Max to dynamically adjust power consumption between the CPU and the GPU for better performance and power efficiency. This means that the system will be able to run faster and use less power.

There are a lot of new AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors that are made with TSMC’s 6nm process. The Ryzen 9 6980HX has 8 cores and 16 threads in the middle of the stack. You can see that this one has a maximum speed of 5.0GHz, making it the fastest Ryzen chip out there. These two chips will go head-to-head: Intel’s Core i9-12900HK and the Apple M1 Max. The Ryzen 9 6980HS is just as powerful as the Ryzen 9 6980HX, but it starts at 35W instead of 45W+ on the 6980HX.
It’s clear that the GPU Compute Engine on all of the Ryzen 9 and Ryzen 7 CPUs is bigger. It can have as many as 12 GPU compute units. This is a significant change from the eight Vega units in previous Ryzen APUs. The Ryzen 6000 U-series chips will be decisive for people who want to buy thin and light laptops.
DDR5 Support & Microsoft Pluton
It should be no surprise that AMD’s new Rembrandt CPUs also have new memory controllers that can handle up to DDR5-5200 and LPDDR5-6400. Because AMD hasn’t said anything about DDR4, we think the new APUs don’t use DDR4. There is a significant change in the new units. PCIe 3.0 to PCIe 4.0, with 8x support for a separate GPU, 12x split between storage and chipset. Also, Thunderbolt 3 can be used with USB 4 and WiFi 6E, which means laptops can be made to meet the specifications. The USB 4 support isn’t the same as Thunderbolt 4, though.

As a side note, AMD also mentioned that its Ryzen 6000 CPUs could run Microsoft Pluton. When Microsoft said in November 2020 that it was working with silicon partners like AMD, Intel, Qualcomm, and so on to make chip-to-cloud security technology possible with Pluton, it was the first time we heard about it. As a result of this and other security features from AMD, the Ryzen 6000 series CPUs are said to be some of the most secure on the market. Read more; AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Vs Ryzen 7 5800X3D
AMD Ryzen 6000 mobile CPUs: Performance
A few laptops with AMD Ryzen 6000 processors are already on the market, so we know how they work. In fact, a few weeks ago, we were able to get our hands on a laptop with a Ryzen 6900HX chip. As far as Ryzen 6000 chips go, the Ryzen 6900HX is one of the most powerful. It has eight cores based on the Zen 3+ architecture, and it can do SMT/Hyperthreading with 16 threads, so it’s mighty.
After we ran many tests on the laptop powered by the Ryzen 9 6900HX processor, we found out how it compared to Intel Core i9-12900HK, Apple’s M1 Pro, and more. If you have an ASUS laptop with a Ryzen 9 6900HX processor, it scored 1,573 and 9,912 on Geekbench 5. It wasn’t as good as the MSI Raider GE76, which scored 1,774 in the single-core test and 12,630 in the multi-core test.
If you compare the Ryzen 9 6900HX’s multi-core performance to the Core i9-single-core 12900HK’s performance, the Ryzen 9 6900HX did not do well. The 6900HX beat the MacBook Pro with the Apple M1 Pro processor. Check out our Ryzen 9 6900HX review to learn more about this chip’s performance and see how it does in many other tests. This is what we think you should do.
We’ll have more to say about the performance of other Ryzen 6000 chips when we get our hands on more laptops, so stay tuned.
Release Date & Pricing
New laptops with AMD’s new Ryzen 6000 series chips are now on the market. A link to buy it is below if you want to buy the ASUS ROG Strix G15 (2022) with the Ryzen 9 6900HX. Razer has a few gaming laptops that run on Ryzen 6000 series chips, which is interesting. To buy Razer Blade 14, we’ve linked it. But there are also a few more interesting choices you should look into.
The Ryzen 6000 series only has chips for phones and tablets, which we’re now seeing on the market. AMD’s next generation of desktop CPUs will be called 7000. They will be sold under that name. If you want to know what to expect from the next-generation CPUs later this year, you can read our AMD Ryzen 7000 series page. Read also; Intel Core i7-12700K vs AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
Final Thoughts
As time goes on, more Ryzen 6000 laptops will run on them. It looks like AMD’s comparison figures show that these new chips will be able to do very well in the market for laptops. It’s said that even the low-power Rembrandt APUs, which run at 15W-28W, can be up to three times faster than other hardware, like the Intel Core i7-1165G7 and GeForce MX450.
A review of the Ryzen 6900HX has been added to this page. We can’t wait to get our hands on more laptops with the new Ryzen 6000 chips. We’ll be adding more information to this page as soon as we get to test more laptops, so keep an eye on this page.
