A U.S. lobbying group for the business world has said that SpaceX is spreading false information about the use of the 12GHz band for 5G services.
A 5G coalition in the U.S. has accused SpaceX of running a “public misinformation campaign” about how opening up the 12GHz band for 5G could hurt its Starlink satellite internet service. SpaceX owns and runs Starlink, which is used in many countries, including the U.S. It uses more than 2,400 satellites in low-earth orbit to connect to the internet, and SpaceX says it plans to add hundreds more in order to cover the whole world.

Starlink uses the hotly contested 12GHz band to connect people to the internet wirelessly. This puts Starlink in conflict with carriers and 5G service providers who also want to use the spectrum. According to them, the U.S. has the least amount of available wireless capacity among the world’s major wireless markets. Sharing the 12GHz band with satellite internet providers like Starlink would be one of the easiest and most convenient ways to change this. The “5Gfor12GHz Coalition,” a non-profit industry lobbying group that includes companies like Dish Network, Dell, and RS Access, has accused Starlink of spreading a false and harmful anti-5G story about the use of the 12GHz spectrum. In a statement posted on its website, the coalition accused Elon Musk of spreading anti-5G propaganda by using scare tactics.
The statement says that SpaceX’s actions would hurt competition and hurt American consumers who want better ways to connect. “It could also hurt America’s position as the world’s leader in 5G and technology as other countries catch up to the U.S. in delivering next-generation services,” said the statement.

SpaceX And Dish Have Been Fighting Over 12GHz For Over A Year
The fight between SpaceX and the 5Gfor12GHz Coalition has been going on for more than a year. The most recent spark was SpaceX’s message to Starlink users, which asked them to ask their lawmakers to stop Dish from using the 12GHz band for 5G. In the days after the public plea, the FCC’s public comment system was flooded with more than 70,000 messages. The vast majority of these messages asked the FCC and U.S. lawmakers to stop Dish from using the 12GHz band.
SpaceX seems to be winning the battle for public opinion, so the coalition has now come out with a strong statement that “sets the record straight” about Starlink’s campaign of false information. The coalition says that there are enough resources in the 12GHz band to share for both satellite internet and 5G on the ground. Read More; Meta Desires The Virtual Landscape Sound Realistic.
SpaceX disagrees with this idea. SpaceX says that giving any spectrum in the controversial band to Dish or another 5G provider would be “changing the rules to satisfy speculative and poorly-defined technologies” and would hurt under-served consumers who need Starlink’s satellite internet the most.
